The District is moving forward in exploring implementation of a Dual Language Immersion Program (DLI). It is still in the exploratory phase to determine the level of interest from parents and from school who may be interested in offering it. Informational meetings are being held to help introduce the idea to parents.
To date, three schools have expressed interest in learning more – Park Elementary, Paradise Valley Elementary, and Ft. Caspar Academy. No decisions have been made at this time as to what school may offer it. The plan is to take educators to Utah in February to visit with those involved in a current program there to seek clarification and understanding of how a DLI program will work.
Dual Language Immersion allows children to learn a foreign language taught during the course of their regular core classes. A child would be taught half the day in English and the other half in either Mandarin Chinese or Spanish. The DLI program would be an optional program for NCSD students. If approved, beginning in Fall ’13, it would be piloted in Kindergarten.
Informational meetings are scheduled over the next several weeks. All of the meetings will be held at the Central Services Facility, 970 N. Glenn Road.
Please plan to join us for one of the following dates:
Jan. 31 at 7 p.m.
Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. – light refreshments will be served
Feb. 14 at 12 p.m. – light refreshments will be served
